Minutes of the Last Meeting

Friends of the Lebanon-Laclede County Library
Minutes, Jan. 19, 2010

President Leslyn Randazzo called the meeting to order at 5:18 p.m. Officers attending were the president; Vice President Jasper Randazzo; Secretary Katie Hilton; and Treasurer Robin Johnson. Jasper read the proposed agenda, and it was approved without correction. Katie read the minutes of the Dec. 21, 2009, meeting, and they
were approved without correction. Robin reported the club's assets as $289.11 in the checking account and $11,152.86 in the savings account. Judy Wallmark moved that her report be filed for audit.

There was no old business. In new business, Leslyn reminded that annual membership dues are being collected. Members were asked to fill out new membership forms to insure that current information is on file. Dues are $2 for junior (youth) or senior members, $5 for individuals or $10 for families.

Requests for donations for Library programming expenses were considered. Children's Librarian Vanessa Williams had given a report at the November meeting and asked for $5,000 for 2010 programming, the same as in 2009. Librarian Debbie Smith described the young adult summer reading program. She said there were 60 participants last summer from Lebanon and other communities in Laclede County. The theme this year will be "Make Waves at Your Library." She requested $1,200 for 2010, the same amount as the Friends' donation last year. Debbie also said she would like to improve the
Teen Corner area of the Library by adding two or three bean bag chairs and more lighting. Librarian Rosalie Klein described the adult summer reading program, which was instituted last year. She said the program was successful, and the Library plans a similar program this year, with classes, movies and informative talks once a week during  June and July. She asked for $500 for programming this year.

After discussion, Sandy Musice moved that the Friends donate $5,000 for children's programming, $1,200 for young adult programming and $500 for adult programming, for a total of $6,700 in 2010. Judy seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous in favor.

During discussion about the Teen Corner donation, Larry Dunbar moved that the club reserve $2,000 for book sale expenses and $1,000 for possible additional children's programming needs. Roberta Page seconded. The vote was
unanimous in favor.

Judy  moved that the club provide up to $500 for furnishings for the Teen Corner as suggested by Debbie . Sandy seconded. The vote was unanimous in favor.

Judy introduced a new member, Shirley Jepson, who was welcomed by the club.

The club discussed having a clearance book sale, similar to last year's, before further clearing shelves in anticipation of the October sale. Joan Jackson moved that the club hold a one-day clearance sale on March 20, which is the date of the citywide garage sale at Cowan Civic Center. Judy seconded. The vote was unanimous in favor. Betsy Scoby noted that the club needs a book sale chairman. Jasper volunteered to be chair. Sandy and Katie offered to assist him.

Leslyn said members would like to send a care package to Jerry McDaniel, last year's book sale chairman, who is stationed with the Army in Afghanistan. Eileen Bubar said she favored the idea, but that it should be a personal effort, not involving club resources. Members agreed. It was decided to ask Lynette McDaniel what Jerry and his unit could use most.

Bobbie Dunbar delivered her audit report of the 2009 financial books. She found all books were "complete, precise and in order," and she thanked former Treasurer Betsy Scoby for her clear record-keeping.

Roberta, as scrapbook chair, said she has completed 68 pages in the current volume. Because WalMart no longer carries acid-free archival pages, she will see if Page Office Supply can order additional supplies.

Next meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 5:15 p.m., from Monday again because it isa holiday. Sandy moved to adjourn at 6 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Katie Hilton
